HELLO, WORLD!
Welcome! My name is Eric Holgate am a current Ph.D. student in the Department of Linguistics at The University of Texas at Austin where I am advised by Katrin Erk. My current work is in Natural Language Processing, and I am primarily interested in forms of knowledge representation and entity modeling for applications in Natural Language Understanding. I have also explored the use of vulgarity in social media, its interaction with sociodemographic factors, and how modeling vulgarity can be used in downstream NLP tasks like sentiment prediction and hate speech detection.
In the past, I have worked in psycholinguistics and cognitive neuroscience to explore the relationship between perceptual and motor learning. While I no longer work directly within psychology and cognition, literature from these disciplines continues to shape the way in which my models are built.
